Overview
Amici sends children from low-income families to one of its 27 partnered OCA accredited summer camps.
Amici Campers are children and youth between the ages of 6-17. Most live in high-priority neighbourhoods in the Greater Toronto Area; frequently in areas where more than 40% of families struggle below the poverty line. Children living with financial barriers do not have equal access to recreation. 1 in 3 families cannot afford to to provide their children with sports and recreation activities outside of school. Recreation is a vital need for children and youth, especially those living in priority neighbourhoods who may be more at-risk to being mislead down a path with outcomes such dropping out of school, crime, or violence.
Camp is an incredibly fun experience, but it offers children so much more. It teaches them to become independent, improves their social skills, allows them to make new friends and succeed as a leader.
85% of Amici's operating budget goes directly to programs.
