Goals
- Develop a healthy, easy to use cookbook available to all patients
- Help cancer patients develop healthy eating habits after treatment
Overview
For the past 5 1/2 years Renewed Strength has offered strength and mobility training to cancer patients throughout Ontario. The one component that has been missing is the availability of healthy food that patients can easily access.
Many cancer patients are plagued with nausea, vomiting, sore mouth and loss of appetite. The "Healthy Bites" project is designed to provide a tool that will help patients expand their range of choices by trying foods - especially vegetables, whole grains and fruit that are easy to prepare and may help their side effects subside.
By developing a cookbook that is easy to read, utilizes easy to find ingredients, and contains recipes that are healthy, a cancer patient will find it easier to replenish their bodies with the nutrients that they need.
All recipes will be tested and tried in the test kitchen by cancer patients and will include their comments and suggestions.
