Overview
The Manitoba Neurofibromatosis Support Group is committed to making the lives of our friends with NF easier. Every year thousands of children undergo MRI scans at the Children's Hospital. The scans are necessary for many disorders and conditions. For those affected with Neurofibromatosis, a frequent MRI is required to monitor tumour growth and is an important part of their continued care.
Our goal is to raise the required $50,000 to purchase CinemaVision for the Children's Hospital MRI machine in Winnipeg. This amount includes the instalment and training. CinemaVision is a 3D virtual reality specialized audio and video system.
Deliverables:
The use of CinemaVision will:
-Reduce stress during MRIs
-Reduce the need for IV and sedation, which carries risks
-minimize claustrophobia and loud sounds of machine
-Shorten visits to the hospital
-Increased number of patients scanned each year
-provide a positive MRI experience for patients of all ages

Budget Notes: We need $50,000 to purchase this specialized system for the use of the MRI machine. Our group has raised $20,000 through a variety of fundraising events and presentations in 2010. We plan on continuing our volunteer efforts to organize fundraisers in 2011. This generous grant would help so much! | |
