Overview

Therapeutic riding is one of the most beneficial forms of physical, mental and emotional therapy the disabled can receive. Unfortunately, it is a very costly sport though. We would like to allow individuals with a wide range of range of physical and cognitive challenges, including, but not limited to: amputation, autism, brain injury, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, developmental delay, Down's syndrome, hearing impairment, learning disability, spinal cord injury, and visual impairment to apply to OnTRA for funding to assist them with the cost of enrollment.

The funding can be used for either summer camp or riding lessons. The money would be distributed directly to member riding centres on behalf of 50 individuals who meet the eligibility criteria and are in most financial need.

Community Benefit

Horseback riding is widely recognized as one of the most beneficial forms of physical, mental and emotional therapy the disabled can receive. Under careful supervision, horseback riding provides physiotherapy, psychological and recreational therapy and motivation for the disabled. It strengthens and relaxes muscles, improves posture, balance and coordination, and increases joint mobility. OnTRA currently has riding centres throughout Ontario so this would benefit individuals from all over Ontario.

How will the $25K be used?

Budget Notes: $500 per rider would enroll an individual in approx. 8-15 therapeutic riding lessons or one week of camp for a child
$ 25,000 Directly enroll 50 riders ($500 each) in riding lessons/camp
