- To Build an Outdoor Ice Rink!!
Overview
Our project plan is to build an outdoor ice rink in our community so we have a place for people of all ages to get out and be active. Skating/ hockey are big parts of our lives here, and right now we have to travel to take part in any ice skating activities. Our winters are long here in Newfoundland, it would be great to be able to offer this opportunity to our community.
Community Benefit
If we are successful in receiving the Pepsi refresh grant our communities will benefit because we will be able to take part in Canada's game in our own backyards. Our rink will be located in the center of our town less than a kilometer from our K-12 school which serves about 500 kids. Hockey and skating are too expensive for some families here because of the cost of travel and the cost to buy into organized sports but if we had a rink right here on New World Island it would allow alot more kids and families to have the oppurtunity to take part in this winter sport.
