Overview
HELP US BUILD VALLEY PARK’S GO GREEN CRICKET FIELD AND COMMUNITY GARDEN
This much needed community garden/hub will:
- Offer a friendly environment for children and adults to learn about cricket within a sustainable environment
- Create opportunities for newcomers to connect over their common passion for cricket
- Transform an underutilized schoolyard and public land into a vibrant community space
Go Green Sustainable Sports Field:
- Community cricket within walking distance of the neighbourhood
- Rainwater harvested and diverted from the roof tops and parking lot through a bioswale into a marsh and an irrigation holding tank
- A track under a tree canopy to create an improved micro-climate
- An amphitheatre for outdoor cultural performances
Learning opportunities:
- Hands on experience planting a vegetable and herb garden
- Creating an urban forest with students planting trees
- Reconnecting the schoolyard to the Don valley ecosystem
