Goals
- Help reduce the stigma of mental illness
- Create community awareness and education
- Assist local club houses in the establishing of new programs
- Enrich the lives of consumers through educational/social events
Overview
The Advisory Council is in the preliminary stages of planning and promoting a walk for mental health. Due to the stigma attached to mental illness few if any fund-raising events are organized. It is well documented that mental illness is underfunded at all three levels of government. Our proposed 5K walk would involve 7 communities within the Kootenay Boundary region of the West Kootenays: Kaslo, Nakusp/ New Denver/Silverton, Slocan City/Slocan Valley, Nelson/Salmo Trail, Rossland, Castlegar, Grand Forks.
