Overview

We provide a unique summer camp experience for girls, ages 6-16.  In addition, we offer family camp opportunities to women and children living in YWCA shelters.  Families who are living with great stress and often coping with trauma, find moments of rest, relaxation and connection at our beautiful camp on the shores of Georgian Bay in Ontario.  For most, this is the only holiday they will ever have and for the vast majority it is the first time they have ever been out of the city.

The $10,000 will be used to make physical improvements to an existing building so the needs of mothers with small children, as well as those with disabilities can be met.  Improvements include adding exterior lighting, installing new beds, new wall panelling, and enlarging doors and windows.  Some of the work of transforming the space will be done by volunteers.

Community Benefit

Camp Tapawingo is owned and operated by YWCA Toronto. The camp located near Parry Sound, Ontario serves over 700 campers every summer and provides subsidies for those in financial need. We also serve groups mainly from many YWCA programs and the community at large including mothers and their children living in YWCA supportive housing and emergency shelters. Camp Tapawingo is a place where our campers thrive. In our supportive community, girls develop skills they need now and in the future.

How will the $10K be used?
